Symposium on Perimenopause

symposium on perimenopause.

Breaking Taboos and Raising Awareness.

On April 29, 2024, we organized a symposium on (peri)menopause at Theater Vaudeville in Brussels for Minister Gwendolyn Rutten and the Agency for Home Affairs. With a full agenda on their end, the cabinet entrusted us with the complete organization of the event. The goal was clear: to share information and knowledge, and to raise awareness about a topic that too often remains unspoken. The target audience included policymakers, entrepreneurs, academics, doctors, paramedics, representatives from the pharmaceutical sector, and more.

Policymakers United Around One Theme.

At 9 a.m., 105 guests were welcomed with breakfast. The symposium opened with three compelling videos by Professor De Pypere, produced by Sylvester Video. In these videos, he outlined the challenges and presented the results of the Securex study on menopause. Two panel discussions followed, each featuring four speakers from different areas of expertise, moderated by Tineke Van Hooland and interspersed with live music by the duo Quite Surprise.

The first panel included Minister Gwendolyn Rutten, Evi Hanssen, Gitte Borgers, and Hanan Ben Abdeslam. The second panel brought together Senior Civil Servant Peter Rabaey, Leen Steyaert, Herlindis Moestermans, Kristel Quintelier, and Sofie Lameire.

More Than a Closing Remark.

Following the panel discussions, the charter on (peri)menopause was officially signed, and Minister Gwendolyn Rutten concluded the plenary session with a speech. The event ended with a delightful lunch accompanied by alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. A day that not only informed, but also connected people and marked an important step toward greater openness around this topic.
